We left Tombstone, Arizona on Friday, March 30 and headed north to Mesa, Arizona to help our son John celebrate his birthday. We did have to rearrange our dinner plans so we wouldn’t miss the Gator basketball game. I guess our cheering helped them because they won and will go to the final game. (Sorry to Debbie & Fred, UCLA fans.)
We were at approximately 4,300 ft in Tombstone and experienced a low of 28 degrees at night (great sleeping). Our site in Mesa was at approximately 1,400 ft so we only experienced a low in the 50’s and 60’s. It’s starting to heat up in Arizona.
We are learning about Arizona RV parks that cater to snowbirds. Mesa, Arizona is a particular hot spot for snowbirds. There must have been 20-30 large RV parks there.
We stayed in Viewpoint RV Park and Resort (and we mean resort). This park had two golf course, a restaurant, 3 swimming pools, 6 spas, planned activities, post office, beauty parlor, etc. There were 1,300 sites for motor homes or semi permanent trailers. We saw lots of active people.
We enjoyed visiting with John and Sandra and sampled some of the local cuisine. We couldn’t get over how much the area where they live has grown. They are in northeast Mesa, and when we first started visiting them years ago, there was nothing out there. Now it’s very developed with housing developments, restaurants, and shopping.
We are nearing the end of our trek around the U.S., having covered 32 states and 5 provinces in Canada. We have covered approximately 12,000 miles with the Lazy Daze and an additional 9,000 miles in the CRV. It’s taken us 10 months, with a few breaks in between.
We left Mesa on April 2 to return home. We’ve enjoyed seeing the country and look forward to our trek to Alaska, starting towards the end of May. We will resume the blog then.
GO GATORS!
